The Comprehensive Ranking System
The Canadian government created a merit-based points system that gives each applicant in the Express Entry pool a score in order to rank immigration hopefuls. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is the name given to this point system, and the score assigned to each candidate is referred to as the CRS score.
Individuals must first be qualified under one of the following programs before being given a Comprehensive Ranking System score:
- The Federal Skilled Worker Program
- The Federal Skilled Trades Program
- Canadian Experience Class
A Comprehensive Ranking System score out of 1,200 is given to each candidate in the pool. There are options available to single applicants without a spouse or common-law partner.
- Core human capital variables like age, education level, language proficiency, and work experience in Canada can each earn up to 500 points;
- For skill transferability reasons, up to 100 points are available, and up to 600 points are available for other factors (such as a provincial nomination, a genuine employment offer, Canadian study experience, a sibling in Canada, and/or proficiency in French).
There are options for candidates who are accompanied by their spouse or common-law partner.
- The principal applicant's basic human capital characteristics are eligible for up to 460 points;
- 40 points maximum for the spouse or common-law partner's basic human capital components;
- A maximum of 100 points is available for the skill transferability factors;
- Additional criteria may be worth up to 600 points.
The number of new permanent residents accepted through Express Entry during the ensuing years will rise year over year, from roughly 56,000 in 2022 to 76,750 in 2023, and 111,500 in 2024, according to the 2022–2024 Canada Immigration Levels Plan. Canada’s immigration officials use the Comprehensive Ranking System as their method for selecting which applicants to invite to apply.
